This is a test of the CellSpin text feature. It allows you to type a message and then send it to sites like Twitter,Facebook, and Pownce. The most amazing thing is that you can also post to your blog. The app currently supports Blogger, Live Journal, TypePad, and Wordpress including self hosted blog. I will also test the audio and picture posting features.

If you aren’t familar with Simpify, it’s an iPhone app that allows you to stream your iTunes library to your iPhone via wi-fi or 3G. It’s been available to jailbroken iPhones for awhile but now it’s available to everyone through the app store. This app sounds great in theory but how does it work? I figured the setup would be quite involved but it’s actually as simple signing up at the Simplify site, downloading the desktop client, and entering your username and password into the iPhone app.
The first test I did was in my office over wi-fi, when you launch the app it tells you which iTunes libraries are available. I selected my computer and the next screen gives you the ability to browse by artist, song, album, playlist etc. I selected the song, it buffered for a few seconds and then played perfectly. The app displays all the info from iTunes but also includes a bio of the artist and lyrics to the song. I did the same test over 3G and the buffering took a few seconds longer but then it played perfectly. If listening to your entire iTunes library on your iPhone or iPod Touch wasn’t cool enough you can also share up to 30 friend’s libraries.

Here are some pictures of the app.

One of my favorite apps on the jailbroken iPod touch was the screen capture feature. I was very disappointed when there was no app for this in today’s launch of the app store. The reason for this omission is that screen capture is built right into the new 2.0 firmware. All you do is hold the home button and then click the power button and you will see your screen flash. The pictures can be viewed instantly in the Photo app and then transfered back to your mac.
I just successfully installed the 2.0 firmware on my ipod touch. I took the chance and installed one of files floating around. As of now Apple has not made the official firmware available yet. All the apps I have tested so far work perfectly and and really extend the usefulness of the iPod touch.
My favorite apps so far are the apple remote and the pownce app, and both are free. The apple remote allows you to control your iTunes and Apple Tv from the ipod touch. The Pownce app makes using Pownce so easy and enjoyable and I think it works better than the actual site. The best part about the Pownce app is that uses safari to log in, so you can use your 1password logins. This will be an issue you hear about soon. So many of the apps are extensions of websites that require your password. If you are someone who uses strong passwords its a real pain to enter your password. If the apps use Safari to log in you can use 1password if they don’t you can’t.
